Export award to Hamilton firm
PA Wellington The maker of a power fencing system has won the Plastics Institute export award.
The system is an energiser pack and modular plastic fence post, made by Gallagher Plastics, of Hamilton specifically for export. The initial producer of more than 50,000 units was sold to 108 countries for a return of more than $lO million.
The company’s managing director, Mr William Gallagher, said it was fitting that the Shipping Corporation had sponsored the award because an offer from the corporation of container space meant that the firm could meet a healthy demand from E.E.C. countries and maintain its moulding operation in New Zealand.
The multi-wire tread-in electric fence standard can be used for temporary fences and strip grazing. More than 700,000 units were sold since production began in May last year. Presenting the award, the Prime Minister, Mr Muldoon, said that the equipment had world-wide application and was used for keeping moles out of bowling greens, baboons out oi orchards, camels off roads, bears from beehives, and elephants from crops. “This type of innovative marketing by Gallagher’s together with its substantial investment in product design, research and development, plus dedicated hard work, have brought deserving achievement,” Mr Muldoon said.
