Vests for Syria
Consignments of bulletproof vests are being exported to Syria with the approval of the United States Commerce Department. A West German firm was granted re-export licences on March 30 and July 15 to sell Syria the vests, which are made with a synthetic material that is subject to United States export controls, a Commerce Department spokesman said. Representative Bill Green (Rep., New York), said: “I am amazed that we would permit this when our troops in Lebanon are being killed and harassed.”—New York.
