Mokau teste
Flow testing of the Mokau formation in the Moki 1 oil exploration well off Taranaki had begun, Tricentrbl Exploration Overseas, Ltd said yesterday. The Mokau is a secondary target area being tested after the main prospect in the well, the Kapuni formation, was found earlier this week to contain no oil or gas.
“During the last few days, cement plugs have been placed to isolate the deeper
portion of the well from the Mokau formation and the testing equipment has been assembled and put into place in the well,” said Tricentrol, the operator of the Benreoch rig, yesterday. Flow testing involves punching holes through the casing placed in the drilled shaft to allow the contents of the surrounding geological structure to flow out.
Indications of hydrocarbons were found in the Mokau as the rig drilled in towards the Kapuni and the testing now is to determine how much oil, if any, is present. The company has said a commercial find in this formation is not expected.
