Motherhood
Sir,—Jenny Phillips has done a service to our community by bringing into the open the dark side of motherhood in our modern suburbs. It has been my delight recently to meet young couples where the father enjoys nurturing and caring for their child just as much as the mother. In these cases the mother is not left alone feeling the sole burden is hers, while the father “does his duty by bringing home the money.” These young fathers have been involved throughout the pregnancy, frequently assisted in the delivery and continued to develop their nurturing talents in the loving care of their children. This is a much more humane situation
than the one in which I was brought up and a situation which offers hope for a more caring and compassionate male sector of our community. — Yours, etc., JILL WILCOX. December 8, 1983.
