Libyan sub. fear
NZPA-Reuter New York A Libyan submarine is prowling around the eastern Mediterranean, posing a potential threat to United States forces in and around Lebanon, C.B.S. “Evening News” reports. Quoting what it said were informed sources, C.B.S.
said that Intelligence analysts were concerned about the diesel-powered submarine’s movements, since Libyan submarines normally do not sail so far from home. Referring to recent threats by high Syrian officials to launch Kami-
kaze attacks against American ships off the Lebanese coast, C.B.S. quoted one Intelligence report as saying that the submarine could be used against the United States. A Pentagon spokesman declined to comment on the report.
