Multitude of summer sports

Sportsmen and spectators alike will have a multitude of sports from which to choose in and around Canterbury from now until, the end of January. Those wishing to watch cricket at Lancaster Park will be able to see Canterbury play Auckland in the Shell Trophy from December 27 to 29, with Northern Districts starting its three day match on the last day of December. The Canterbury-Auckland one-day match will be played on Boxing Day, but the next Shell C.up match, against Northern Districts, will be held at Ashburton. The England cricketers begin their tour of New Zealand at Auckland on January 7, when they play a threeday match, but it will be February 3 before they step on Canterbury soil to play the second test at Lancaster Park.
