Loughran the sharpest shooter
Flying Officer Mike Loughran of R.N.Z.A.F. Base Woodbourne fires during the competition for the R.N.Z.A.F. Queen’s Medal, at West Melton. Flying Officer Loughran, a general service training officer, won the shooting championship with 88 out of a possible 100 points, the highest mark recorded in the last 10 years. It was his fourth attempt for a medal, he has been runner-up twice. The competition is run as
a combat shoot with targets being shot at under combat conditions. , Warrant Officer Mark Gallagher was second with 76 points. He already holds a Queen’s Medal and this was the fourteenth year he had entered. Warrant Officer Murray Ross was third with 72 points. He also holds a Queen’s Medal. The medal was presented by the R.N.Z.A.F. Base Wigram commander, Group Captain Colin Rudd, at the West Melton range.
