Bogart Direct due for reward at Waimate
By

Bogart Direct should gain reward for consistency when he contests the D.B. Waimate Cup tomorrow.
Since last he won at Addington Raceway on New Zealand Cup day, he has had four starts for a second and two thirds. Last Saturday he was runner-up to the highlypromising Premiership at the end of a solidly-run 2000 m at Methven. There was merit in that placing as Bogart Direct was slow away and he maintained a determined run over the final 400 m.
The extra 600 m in the Waimate race will suit him and it will be most surpris-
ing if he fails to take a prominent part in the finish. Twelve months ago Richard Brosnan had to bow to Bionic Adios with Double Cove in this race. He should go close to success this time with Jet’s Sister, which shaped like an early winner when third behind Randall at Methven last Saturday. Jet’s Sister raced to good purpose late last season and the daughter of Armbro Del looks ready to return to that form in her next few starts. Bobanish, too, has been
racing well without a great deal of luck lately. He was third behind Premiership at Methven last week and appeals as the type to appreciate the extra distance at Waimate. Stung, Miss Bromac, and Smooth Charm should be the pick of the others, although a big run from the backmarker, Colonel Whiskers, would not be a complete surprise. Barbra Streisand, a maiden graduate at this meeting last year shortly before she went amiss,
came back to racing in style at Methven last Saturday. She won most convincingly, suggesting that any rise in class she might encounter in the Waimate Town and Country Club Handicap tomorrow should not trouble her.
Most opposition to the speedy mare could come from Lancer Lad and Miss Croupier, while there will also be support for Foulden Lord, Monte Casino, Blue Sapphire, and Never Ending.
