Shooting titles
Competitors from Southland, West Coast, Blenheim and Nelson will be testing their accuracy against their Christchurch rivals when the Canterbury fullbore rifle shooting championships are held this week-end. The titles are to be contested over 300, 500 and 600 yards tomorrow, and then 800 and twice over 900 yards on Sunday. Among the established shooters who will be strongly in contention are the holder, John Dodson (Blenheim), a former winner, Lindsay Smith (Malvern), the Commonwealth Games representative, John Whiteman (Sydenham), and Morris Callaghan (Westport) and Sandy. Marshall (Nelson). Charlie Ledbrook will be seeking to maintain the form which earned him victory in the recent Marlborough championships, and a former Christchurch shooter, John Cousins, is capable of filling a high placing. The West Melton range is regarded as one of the most testing in New Zealand, and the eventual winner will need to display high levels of proficiency, and consistency. . .
