Woman selected
The Automobile Association (Canterbury) now has a woman on its council, the first in its 80-year history. Mrs Barbara Petre was appointed to the council of 12 members after insufficient nominations were received for vacancies. The other new member on the council is Mr Brian Palliser. Mrs Petre, a former teacher, is a part-time tutor at the Christchurch Polytechnic, and co-ordinator of the W.E.A.’s adult literacy scheme. For more than 15 years she contributed to the motoring page of “The Press” in the “She Says” column. She has extensive driving experience both in New Zealand and overseas. Mr. Palliser, a Christchurch barrister and solicitor, has a long association with motoring in Canterbury.
At the recent annual meeting of the council, Mr R. A. Ayton was re-elected president and Mr R. E. Wilton re-elected vice-presi-dent.
