Redundancy agreement
PA Auckland A settlement was reached yesterday over a redundancy dispute which stopped work briefly on the Auckland Harbour Bridge earlier in the day. About 80 bridge workers will lose their jobs when the Auckland Harbour Bridge Authority is - disbanded on March 31. “While the settlement, we have reached at this point
will fall short of our members’ expectations, it was essential to reach some agreement now,” said the secretary of the Northern Local Government Officers’ Union, Mr Ken Tuxford. The agreement, which is expected to go before an Arbitration Court next week, sets out conditions for redundancy and long-service leave payments for workers who will lose their jobs after the change-over.
