Dyslexia

Sir,—The problems of dyslexia have been studied chiefly from the education point of view. However, the medical implications of dyslexia have to a large extent been ignored. Few people realise that there are several different kinds of dyslexia—that dyslexia can give rise to co-ordination problems which go far beyond reading and writing; that it can cripple a person; lead to behaviour which can be confused with mental illness, and can cause sexual dysfunction resulting in disturbed or broken marriages. It would appear that possibly the majority of people in the medical profession do not understand fully the implications of dyslexia and have relegated this subject to the educationists.—Yours, etc., G. A. LEICESTER. November 6, 1983.
