Labour policy adopted?

Parliamentary reporter Labour Party policy on war pensions has been partly adopted by the Government, said Mr M. W. Connelly (Lab., Yaldhurst), yesterday. The Government has announced that it will amend the War Pensions Act to allow in certain circumstances the reinstatement of a war widows’ pension that

has been terminated because of remarriage. Mr Connelly said that this was Labour Party policy, and that it was a provision of a private members’ bill he had sought to introduce for several years. The Goverment’s intention to amend the act was revaled in Parliament on Thursday evening after Mr Connelly asked what action the Government was taking

on war pensions. The Minister of Defence, Mr Thomson, replied that the Government intended amending the act in respect of war widows’ pensions. The amendment would mean that a war widow who had her pension terminated because of remarriage could have it reinstated if the marriage ended within five years, he said.
