Clark close to N.S.W. golf leaders
NZPA Sydney The New Zealand golfer, Denis Clark, was three shots off the leader, Terry Gale, of West Australia, after two rounds of the $lOO,OOO New South Wales Golf Open at the intricate Concord course at Sydney yesterday. Clark added a 72 to his opening round of 71 to tally 143.
Clark, who recently threw in his job as a club professional at Te Awamutu to play full time on the circuit, led the tournament early yesterday, but three bogeys in the back nine—he had a two under 33 in
the first nine—wrecked his chances of having a bigger sayin the lead.
Gale’s 140 (70,70) is two strokes better than lan BakerFinch (Queensland) and Bob Shearer (Victoria). Clark shares fourth position with David Graham (New South Wales), Greg Norman (Queensland), who had a threeunder round of 68, and the evergreen Bill Dunk (New South Wales).
Other leading New Zealand scores were:
Stuart Reese (144), John Lister (147), Walter Godfrey (149), and Simon Owen (150).
