Recession means U.N. halves aid
PA Wellington The international economic recession had meant a reduction of 55 per cent on all projects being run by the United Nations Development Programme, said the programme’s deputy administrator, Mr Arthur Brown, in Wellington. Projects in 150 countries had had to be cut because of insufficient funds from donor countries, he said. New Zealand had given $1.5 million over the last two years, the smallest contribution of the 17 nonbenefiting donor countries — but it provided the U.N.D.P. with about 70 experts in various Helds.
