Wool down at Invercargill
PA Invercargill Compared with the Napier sale earlier in the month, the market was down for all types at the Invercargill wool sale yesterday, according to the official report. Crossbred fleece sold in buyers’ favour and skirtings were to 2.5 per cent cheaper. Crossbred oddments were 2.5 to 5 per cent down.
The offering was 17,946 bales of new season’s wool and 6800 bales from the Wool Board. The fleece wools opened up showing good average colour, but many lots had a dustymuddy contamination because of the wet winter.
The offering was fleece, 44 per cent, second-shear 5 per cent, crutchings 22 per cent, oddments 12 per cent, and skirtings 4 per cent. The main competition was from Eastern and Western Europe and Japan. The Wool Board was not required to support the market.
The adjusted weighted average sale price was 296.75 c a kilogram. Based on this, a Government supplementary payment of 7.8 per cent will apply to all wool sold at the sale and all wool sold privately from midnight, October 20 to midnight, October 26. The market indicator was 297 c.
