$7M bill for sports injuries
Sports injuries are costing the Accident Compensation Corporation more than ?7 million a year, according to the corporation’s managing director, Mr J. L. Fahy. That bill was for running sports such as football, netball, basketball, hockey, cricket, tennis, and athletics, and the cost in human terms to the 10,000 victims a year was far more than could be measured in compensation dollars, Mr Fahy said. The corporation has just released a revised edition of its successful booklet, “A Safe Way to Running — Essential Advice for all Sports,” available free from any corporation office. The first edition was published two years ago and more than 100,000 were given away.
