Varied fare at Rangiora on Monday

By

J. J. BOYLE

The North Canterbury Racing Club enters the jetbet betting age at Rangiora on Monday.

It will be playing a pioneering role for South Island galloping at its spring meeting but its officials are confident that there will be no serious first-day hiccups. Much of that confidence is based on the fact that there will be an experienced pool of operators of the system, experience gained at Addington. Trifecta betting will be the big attraction of the new sell-pay system for many Rangiora patrons, and the smoothness of the operation will depend largely on the care taken by the hitherto uninitiated with their betting slips to be fed into the system. Problems and queries will be attended to on the course by 20 T.A.B. jetgirls, who will be stationed close to the 66 combined betting/ payout windows. Another milestone in the history of racing on the course will be the official opening of the new administration block and stand immediately after the second race on Monday. The official opening will be made by Mr Derek Quigley, member of Parliament for Rangiora. High points of interest on Monday’s racing programme should be provided by the three-year-olds in the United Building Society Mile; and by the youngsters in the Morwenstow Juvenile, Canterbury’s first two-year-old race of the season. Of major interest to doubles devotees will be the North Canterbury Cup and the Savant Twelve Hundred. Form for those T.A.B. races:—
