Auckland population up
PA Wellington The Auckland Regional Authority area experienced the greatest increase in population of all local government regions during the period between the 1981 census and March 31 this year, Statistics Department figures show. The population there rose 34,402 to 862,400 in the period. The highest rate of population growth was in Bay of Plenty where the population rose 5.1 per cent to 181,300.
