Stripped machine found

Richard Lowen, who must be one of Christchurch's unluckiest Ducati motor-cycle owners, had some good news and some bad news yesterday. The good news was that his $4OOO, 750 cu cm GT machine, stolen on August 11. had been found in a vacant section in Long Street, Woolston. The bad news was that it had been stripped of $2OOO worth of parts, including the mudguards, front brakes, carburettors, ignition, and mufflers. Mr Lowen said that having seen the condition of his motor-cycle, he was in two minds about whether he really wanted it back.

It was the second Ducati Mr Lowen had lost to thieves.

The first, a $7OOO Darmah, was stolen from outside the Waltham Arms Tavern on November 2 last year. Neither motor-cycle was insured.

Mr Lowen said that the machine recovered yesterday appeared to have been ridden hard before it was stripped. The back tyre, almost new when the Ducati was stolen, had been worn almost bald.

The engine would also have to be stripped before the motor-cycle could be used again, said Mr Lowen.
