Fairhall lies eleventh
Neroli Fairhall, of Christchurch, who won the Commonwealth Games gold medal at Brisbane last year, is in eleventh place after the first day of the world target archery championships at Los Angeles. Also well-placed in the women’s section is the Ashburton archer, Ann Shurrock, who is in fifteenth place.
On a day in which conditions were ideal for high
scoring, the top performance came from a Korean, J. Kim, with 641 points, and a German, P. Zahradneck, was second with 635. Linda Zazienko, a Canadian, who Fairhall beat at Brisbane, was third with 628. Shooting at long-range targets from distances of 70m and 60m Fairhall scored 612 points and Shurrock scored 601. Both were in the top 10 at one stage.
