Thomson appeal dismissed
NZPA-Reuter Melbourne The leading Melbourne jockey, Brent Thomson, formerly of New Zealand, has failed in his appeal to the Victoria Racing Club Committee against a onemonth suspension, but has had the term reduced.
However, through his solicitor, Mr Geoff Croxford, Thomson said he would apply to the Supreme Court for an injunction to enable him to ride immediately. In dismissing Thomson’s
appeal, the committee reduced his sentence and his suspension will now expire at midnight on October 27.
The reduction of Thomson’s suspension means he will be able to ride in the Victoria Derby and the Melbourne Cup.
Thomson had been suspended on a charge of improper riding at Cranbourne on October 5.
His original suspension meant he would have missed the entire Melbourne Cup carnival.
