Few changes expected in Canty team
The Canterbury rugby team is not expected to undergo much change next year. Transfers are possible, but unlikely, in one or two cases, and there are others, especially the schoolteachers, who will be looking for jobs in Canterbury. The wing, Garry Hooper, is the only player to have retired, and with the exception of John Ashworth all the others are well short of retirement age. Ashworth, who will be 33 next month, is leaving his decision until next year, but
so long as his farming commitments are not overbearing he could well be persuaded to have another season.
The selector-coach, Alex Wyllie, said on Saturday evening that earlier in the year he had thought of finishing this season, but he had made no decision.
The Canterbury Rugby Union intends calling for nominations in the next few weeks for its Canterbury A, Canterbury B, and Colts selectors for next season and the elections will probably be held in about a month.
