Echoes of fond memory
Sir,—Answering Mollie Dickinson’s letter where she asks: “Who in 20 years time will be able to enjoy the spring in Hagley Park and quote poetry?” I will. Our J 4,5,6 syndicate at Ashburton Intermediate School has learnt “Daffodils” by William Wordsworth and I’m sure many of us will be able to quote it 20 years on. From an early age young children learn nursery rhymes by repetition, while at school many forms of poetry are taught by memorising. I must admit that so far we have not learnt any Shakespeare, but that may be yet to come.—Yours, etc., SUZANNE ROBERTSON. September 24, 1983.
