Award accepted
NZPA Washington Mrs Thatcher yesterday declared herself ready to join battle with the Soviet Union for the hearts and minds of the world’s people, “with the confidence of Churchill.” She was delivering her acceptance speech at the British Embassy of an award of the Churchill Foundation for her efforts in promoting Anglo-Ameri-can friendship. In it, she intensified significantly the anti-Soviet line which she has followed since she began her North American tour on Monday. She recalled that Mr Andropov had said in June that a struggle was under way for the minds and hearts of billions of people on the planet and that the future of mankind depended on the outcome of the ideological struggle. “That is Mr Andropov’s challenge. I accept it,” she declared.
