Reform attacked
South Africa’s Catholic Church has attacked the Government’s proposal for a controversial new constitution, saying that the reform failed in regard to justice, truth, love and freedom. A pastoral letter from the country’s Catholic bishops, read out in every Catholic church, said that it was a serious moral failure that the constitution disregarded blacks, who make up over two-thirds of South Africa’s 27 million people. — Johannesburg.
