Unchanged golf team
In view of Canterbury’s impressive victory against Otago in Dunedin at the week-end, it is hardly surprising that the selectors have named the same eight golfers for the Marac South Island inter-provincial championship at Methven this week-end. The only change is in the playing order where Neil Reid and Peter Heasley, the No. 7 and No. 8, respectively, against Otago, swap places. The team, in playing order, is: John Sanders, Paul Minifie, James Angus, Joe Gantley, Murray Brown, Robert McDonald, Heasley
and Reid. Otago has won the title for five of the last six years — Canterbury interrupting the sequence in 1980 — and Canterbury’s victory, 10Vz--s¥a, at the week-end must have encouraged the players for the teams’ match-play event on Saturday and Sunday. However, Canterbury performed dismally on the Methven course earlier this season when losing heavily to Mid-South Canterbury, and it is possible that the combined team might have its first success in the event since 1976.
