Charles fourth equal
NZPA-Reuter Rickmansworth Jose-Maria Canizares, of Spain, ended a sequence of near misses when he produced a storming finish to triumph with a total of 269 in the Bob Hope British Golf Classic at Moor Park yesterday. Bob Charles, of New Zealand, was fourth equal on 273 with Britain’s Gary Cullen and Carl Mason.
Canizares, a runner-up on four occasions last year and three times this season, survived a fierce challenge from Northern Ireland’s David Feherty to take the title by one stroke. Canizares was among a four-strong group who were two strokes behind the overnight leader, Bernhard Langer, of West Germany, who carded a 70 to finish third on 271.
