New Mormon chapel in Chch
The New Avonside chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, which will be dedicated in a special service today.
Designed by a Christchurch architect, Mr Spencer Meikle, the building was
completed two years ago with the help of free labour from church building missionaries. The $BOO,OOO complex has chapel seating for 250 people and also includes classrooms, a kitchen,
library, offices, and baptismal font. It is the Church’s third chapel in Christchurch. The chapel, which will be dedicated by the president of the Church’s Christchurch stake. Professor David
Mclntyre, will be open to the public today. Activities will include films and visual displays on the work done by the Church, a recital by the Christchurch pianist, Thomas Karena, and the planting of a tree to celebrate the occasion.
