Security tight after blast

NZPA-Reuter Seoul The police said yesterday that they had reinforced security around foreign missions in South Korea after an explosion at a United States cultural centre in the southern city of Taegu yesterday killed a student and injured five other people. The police said that they suspected the blast, which destroyed part of the fivestorey building and shattered windows of nearby buildings, was a planned attack, but the exact cause was still being investigated. Security was also tightened at tourist hotels, airports and offices of foreign news media organisations. The police said that Huh Boyong-Chul, aged 17, a high school student, was killed instantly when a bag he and a policeman were checking exploded at the entrance of the American centre.

The policeman, a guard of the centre and three passers-by were injured in the blast. The victims were all Koreans.
