Army exercise at West Melton
Soldiers from throughout the South Island will take part in a command post exercise at the West Melton rifle range at the week-end. The exercise, named Grail Quest, will be conducted by the Third Task Force Region of the New Zealand Army. The regional commander, Colonel Michael Dudman, is the exercise director and Major Brian Hewitt the exercise co-ordinator. The aim of the exercise is
to practise command post procedures in ’ the Third Task Force Region at formation and unit level during the attack phase of war. Regular and Territorial soldiers will work from camouflaged tents and direct operations by radio to a war game control. The setting for the exercise is an attack on rebel forces who have penetrated the North Island, based south of Auckland.
