Munching for the team
Appropriately dressed in a Canterbury football jersey, Mrs Jean Waters, right, samples a newly backed “Canterbury biscuit” offered to her by Mrs Vivienne Durham, a fellow-worker at the St Martins Cake Kitchen in Wilsons Road, yesterday.
The idea for the biscuits, baked in the red and black Canterbury colours, came
from members of the staff. They originally planned to produce them for the game against Wellington last Saturday. However, the special black colouring confection did not arrive in time. The staff also decorated the shop in the provinces colours and also wore jerseys supplied by Mrs Jean Sin-
cock, the mother-in-law of Murray Davie, the Canterbury prop forward. Shortly after the shop opened, a teacher from St Martins School bought two dozen of the new cookies to “shout” on the birthday of the headmaster, Mr I. R. Smith, who was described by staff as a “rugby fanatic.”
