’Chaser flies out tomorrow
PA Hamilton Grey Warbler, one of New Zealand’s best steeplechasers, will leave for England tomorrow. Longe range plans are for Grey Warbler to contest the rich Grand National Steeplechase at Aintree in late March next year, after several lead-up races. Grey Warbler, a nine-year-old grey gelding by Grey Bird, was the star ’chaser of the 1982 winter with his wins in the Hawke’s Bay, Wellington, and Grand National Steeplechases. He will be accompanied
by his Waverley co-owner, Mrs Jenny Boone, who shares in the ownership with Leo and Roy Robinson.
Grey Warbler’s flight will take him to Los Angeles and from there on to Paris next Thursday. He will then cross the English Channel to be stabled at Lambourne in Berkshire.
The leading amateur jockey, Dennis Gray, who has ridden in English races — including a Grand National Steeplechase, will ride Grey Warbler in England.
