Widow to run Kathryn • McDonald, widow of the Georgian congressman killed aboard the South Korean jetliner shot down by the Soviet Union, said yesterday that she would run for her husband’s seat in the House of Representatives. Mrs McDonald, aged 34, said that she had decided to enter the special election for the Seventh Dis- . trict seat on October 18 so that Larry McDonald’s work would continue uninterrupted.—Marietta. Well capped A war-damaged Iranian oil well gushing oil for nearly six months into the Gulf that caused a severe environmental pollution problem has finally been capped by Iranians. The leaking well made a giant oil-slick that has been floating about the Gulf threatening to cause irreparable damage to marine life and the sea-water desalination plants of the oil-rich Arab States of the region. The Nowruz oil well was damaged during an Iraqi air raid on March 1 this year.— Nicosia. New brewery The municipal authorities of Peking have decided to build a new brewery capable of producing 100,000 tonnes of beer in order to meet the growing needs of residents. The new brewery, due to be completed in 1985, would double Peking’s beer production—Peking.
Reporter released
Gerd Heidemann, the reporter who bought the fake “Hitler diaries” for the West Germany magazine “Stern” has been released from custody, said his lawyer, Holger Schroeder. Heidemann was arrested in May and has been held in custody since except for a brief period in August when he was freed but rearrested the next day.—Hamburg *
