World ranking for Horan

NZPA special correspondent Duisburg

Alan Horan, New Zealand’s single sculler at the world rowing championships at Duisburg in Germany, rowed himself into 11th ranking in the world with his fifth place in the petite final yesterday. Horan, reserve for the New Zealand eight and coxed four, tried to make a race of it from the start but tired over the last 500 m.

Up to that mark, he had been ranging from second to fourth but when the rest of the field upped their stroke rates at the 500 m mark Horan had nothing in reserve.

The petite final was won by Tim McLaren, reserve for the Australian eight.
