Bhana recalled for tests
From KEVIN TUTTY
Balvant Bhana, who had been plagued by injury earlier in the season, has forced his way back into the New Zealand hockey team with some polished performances at the Adidas national tournament, which finished in Palmerston North on Saturday.
The New Zealand team of 15 for two test matches against India, in Auckland and Whangarei next weekend, was named after the New Zealand Juniors-India match.
The selectors have one player to add to the squad. There is one new cap, Chris Brown, who played steadily
at right-half for Auckland during the tournament. Four players from the side which played in Kuala Lumpur two weeks ago, have not been included. They are John Melluish, the Wellington goal-keeper, who has been replaced by Maurice Marquet who was injured; George Carnoutsos, Greg Pierce, and Jon Tanner, from Canterbury. Either Tanner or Carnoutsos could be added to the squad because only six forwards have been named.
The team is.— Graeme Sligo (Manawatu), Marquet (Otago), Bhana, Robin Wilson, Andy Innes (Canterbury), Grant McLeod (Northland), Brent Miskimmin, Stuart Grimshaw, Hus Bhikha, Peter Miskimmin, Laurie Gallen (Wellington), Brown, Arthur Parkin, Ramesh Patel, Peter Daji (Auckland). The additional player will be named on Thursday evening, after the selectors have seen Canterbury and Wellington play India.
