Messenger prospect?
Special correspondent Wellington A run in the New Zealand Messenger series at Auckland has not been ruled out by the owner, Mr Roy McKenzie, for his four-year-old, Roydon Wonder, after that runner had turned in a game performance to win the High Speed Gas Pace at Hutt Park on Saturday evening. Roydon Wonder showed all the gameness possible to win the C 3 and C 4 pace from Acapulco, Misty Rainbow, Ella’s Pride and Golden Casanova. He ran the 2400 m in <3min 6.6 s which was really not all that far from the track best of 3min 3.25. The trainer-driver, Fred Fletcher, had the Scottish Hanover gelding in or near the lead all the way and they had four lengths to spare at the finish. It was, all round, a fine run on a night when 2400 m races were as prevalent as discarded jetbet slips. The next best time was 3min 12s run by the second leg winner, Hurricane Tom, Waireka News, a maiden winner and one of the Springtime Heat winners, Motu King. Roydon Wonder has now won four races and will contest the correponding race for C 3 and C 4 pacers tomorrow night.
Three of his wins have come at Hutt Park and the other at Rangiora.
