Police liaison in Sydney
PA Wellington Detective Inspector G. C. Cunneen, deputy investigative services at Police National Headquarters, will be the New Zealand police liaison officer in Sydney. Mr Cunneen, aged 39, will take up the post on September 26, subject to final confirmation by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. With another detective, Mr Cunneen travelled to Chorley, England, in 1979 to provide information about New Zealanders involved in the murder of Martin Christopher Johnstone.
Mr Cunneen, who has spent most of his 20 years in the police in the Wellington region, will replace Detective Inspector L. D. Sinton. Mr Sinton, the first to hold the Sydney post when it was established in 1980, has resigned from the police.
