August warmer than usual
August was warmer than usual, according to the Meteorological Office in Christchurch. The mean temperature recorded for the month at Christchurch Airport was 7.4 deg. C., and 8.1 deg. C., recorded at the Botanic Gardens. It was also a drier month, with a total rainfall of 35mm compared with an average of 53mm. Sunshine totalled 12 hours above the average and frosts were fewer than normal for the month.
Rainfall and sunshine during winter were normal but the mean temperature for the three months was 0.5 deg. C. above average.
