Cabinet may discuss B.C.N.Z.
PA Wellington Allegations of corruption within the Broadcasting Corporation might be discussed by the Cabinet on Monday said the Prime Minister, Mr Muldoon, yesterday. Mr Muldoon said that although the Minister of Broadcasting, Dr Shearer, had said he did not propose to take any action over the allegations, “that does not impinge on the ability of the Government to set up some sort of inquiry.” Allegations about corrupt practices were raised in Parliament this week by the Senior Opposition Whip, Mr Jonathan Hunt, who called for a public Commission of Inquiry. Mr Muldoon said that some of the clamour for an investigation was coming
out of the corporation. “Some people in the B.C.N.Z. are approaching Mr Hunt with information and requests for an investigation,” he said. When asked if he was dissatisfied with the performance of the B.C.N.Z. Mr Muldoon said, “I am prepared to put it mildly and say, not totally satisfied.” He said that his dissatisfaction was not only with the light entertainment section but “I am talking about you lot (reporters) as well.”
“Obivously I will talk to the Minister about it and my colleagues will very likely discuss it in the Cabinet on Monday.” It was too early to say whether an inquiry would be held, he said. Show good earner, Page 3.
