Neros win classics at Yonkers
The Nero 2-year-old colt Trutone Lobell set a track record when winning the $559,000 L. B. Sheppard Pace at Yonkers Raceway on Wednesday night And three days before, also at Yonkers, the Nero filly De Buena Lobell easily won the $157,000 La Paloma Classic. . Both Nero horses have established themselves as the top 2-year-old colt and filly in the United States this season.
Nero is the leading sire of 2-year-olds in the United States this season with 15 in 2:00. Nero’s only son in New Zealand, Clever Innocence already has 47 bookings including the top mares Transglo, Taimoni (dam of Our Mana), Sailor’s Dream, Tact Del and Vitellia booked to him. Clever Innocence stands his second season at Neville Benny’s Spring Park Stud, Springstone, telephone 295-635. He served 83 mares last season for a 95 per cent fertility rate. / £dvt
