McGinty to race at end of month

Special correspondent Auckland Sprints at Ellerslie on August 27 and at Avondale a fortnight later will start McGinty on his next racing programme. McGinty strode through 800 m on the No. 1 grass at Takanini on Tuesday morning in great style, running his last 600 effortlessly in* 39.8. The horse’s trainer, Colin Jillings, then outlined his plans for a first-up race in the 1200 m Admiralty Handicap at the Pakuranga Hunt meeting to be followed by a weight-for-age 1400 m, the West End Stakes, at Avondale on September 10. The $275,000 W. S. Cox Plate, at Moonee Valley on October 22, is also on the programme; and the McGinty camp is very hopeful of securing the New Zealand nomination for the Japan Cup on November 27.
