Redundancy agreement
mAgreement has been reached between Butterfields and unions representing 21 workers who will be made redundant soon when the company’s High Street Christchurch department store closes soon. Fourteen of the workers are members of the Canterbury branch of the Shop
Employees’ Union and six are in the Canterbury Clerical Workers’ Union. The other worker is a storeman who has the longest service of 19 years. A union spokesperson said that the redundancy agreement was very satisfactory but she would not divulge details.
