Two committed on fraud charge
PA Auckland Two men have been committed for trial on charges of conspiracy to defraud and theft by misappropriation involving several hundred thousand dollars. The men, Kevin Patrick Murphy, aged 34, a barrister and solicitor, of Takapuna, and Louie Brien Sumich, aged 49, a company director, of Mairangi Bay, appeared before Judge Mac Lean this week on the eleventh day of a depositions hearing. Murphy and Sumich faced four joint charges and two additional charges jointly
with an Auckland company, Landseair Industries, Ltd. Murphy faced a further three charges. The charges related to negotiations between Murphy, Sumich, the company and church boards throughout New Zealand for the building of churches and halls. Judge Mac Lean found that a prima facie case had been established against the two men and the company on all charges. He remanded them on $lOOO bail each to September 7 for the date to be set for a trial in the District Court at Auckland.
