Riverbank work planned?
Work to beautify the banks of the lower Heathcote River may begin later this year, according to the president of the Combined Estuary Association, Mr B. R. Hansen. Mr Hansen said it was initially hoped the project would cover about 700 metres downstream from
the Lyttelton turn-off. The work could include the planting of grass, trees, and shrubs, and a walkway and picnic area on the southern bank. Mr Hansen said delays had resulted from the need for a report on all the Heathcote River catchment and consideration of the
impact of the Woolston cut.
Suggestions for beautification of the river banks were heard at a recent meeting of representatives from the Heathcote County Council, the Christchurch Drainage Board, the Christchurch City Council, and the Labour Department.
