Daylight saving supported
PA Rotorua Turning the hands of the clock back for summer daylight saving, officially known as New Zealand Summer Time, was the “whim of a few selfish people,” the Countrywomen’s Institute annual conference has been told.
However, speakers against daylight saving did not convince the majority, and a remit advocating abolition was rejected by the conference.
An Eastern Bay of Plenty delegate, Mrs L. Thurgood, said that blaming daylight saving for children not going to bed was “an excuse.”
“Eskimos don’t sleep for six months,” she said. A remit urging that parents be made responsible for their children’s acts of vandalism was carried.
