New trial sought
PA Wellington A-motion for a new trial in the claim by Mr Desmond James Monaghan, controller of television programming for the Broadcasting Corporation, against the Prime Minister, Mr Muldoon, for $40,000 damages for defamation has been filed in the High Court at Wellington. A jury last month found
that comments made by Mr Muldoon about Mr Monaghan with reference to the decision by the B.C.N.Z. not to screen the television film, “Death of a Princess,” were not defamatory of Mr Monaghan. Mr Monaghan is seeking a new trial on the ground that the jury’s verdict was against the weight of evidence.
