Consistent Anbanda Hastings choice

PA Wellington The Paeroa mare, Anbanda, has been responsible for a host of good runs this campaign and now that she is on the winning trail that patch of form could continue at Hastings this afternoon.

Anbanda is to run in the Lake Station Handicap, the first leg of the double, a C2 event over 2000 m and she could easily come out on top. All along, Anbanda has been running fine races these last two or three months and she capped that with a win at Paeroa toward the end of last month. That was in a C2 race with 54.5 kg, and she will have to carry a couple more with Grant Cooksley up today. Indeed, one of the more promising young gallopers about, looks like being the hardest for her to beat. The four-year-old has

been running in lesser class races with bigger weights, but he looks like making a good fist of this one. He has 54.5 kg, the same weight he carried when third behind She’s a Lady on Manawatu Hunt Cup Day. Vanity, at one time at Foxton, but now at Te Rapa, looked quite impressive with good runs at Hastings last month in useful company. He has not won for a little time, but was fourth at Matamata and then sixth a week ago at Matamata. Noble Edition has been disappointing in his last two races but he looks capable of much better. He was fifth at Levin recently.

Gold Shah was an upset winner on Wellington’s final day. He went to Te Awamutu and ran seventh there but could be more at home under today’s conditions. Gaimoss makes real appeal. The mare has 56kg to carry and does well on bad ground. The forecast from the club yesterday was for a track between firm and easy, but Gaimoss did manage to run second behind Rae’s Dream at Levin on what was a good winter track. Vincere has good form to recommend his chances, while Vesper could be one for longer odds. She has run fine races on the course

before. The second leg of the double is the C 4 Forest Gate Handicap. The best chance looks to be David Spencer, a lightly raced six-year-old from the McEwan-Gestro stable. He has won on the course and was fifth last time at Hawera and fourth at Hastings early last month. Lucky Pal, from the Hammersley stable is a form runner with a Hawera win and an Awapuni third to back her prospects, while Super Jinx, out of Melbourne Cup winner Hi Jinx, won at Rotorua. A maiden early in July, he has not raced since.
