Where on earth did Noah come down?
The following letter was published in the London “Sunday Times” after the latest Noah’s Ark expedition was reported: “How much research has been done before mounting the expedition to discover Noah’s Ark on Mount Ararat on the TurkishSoviet frontier?
The Bible (Genesis VIII:4) instructs us that the Ark landed not on the mountain but “upon the mountains (plural) of Ararat.” That is on the mountains of the ancient pre-Armenian kingdom of Ararat. According to the Sumerian “Gilgamesh,” in which the Great Flood is first described (c 2600 8.C.), the
Ark landed on Mount Nishir, northeast of Mesopotamia, which later came within the kingdom of Ararat. It seems, therefore, that expeditions to Mount Ararat are barking up the wrong mountain! M. Chahin. Wiveliscombe, Somerset.
