Liquor advertising
Sir,—l have followed with amazement the debate about television liquor advertising and now I see that Mr D. M. Jones, M.P., intends to introduce a bill to Parliament to ban it. Alcohol has been a part of every human society that I know of for all recorded history and so is a part of the fabric of human society and every culture. By contrast, twentieth century man has created motor cars and aeroplanes to cause, and spread, death, injury, and destruction in a degree, and with a total lack of discrimination, previously undreamed of. I submit that we should ban, first, the advertising, then the distribution, and, finally, the production of motor-cars and all flying objects. Let us leave our alcohol well alone.—Yours, etc.,
L. A. McLEOD. July 30, 1983.
